More Enjoyment, Less Stress: 10+ Fun Classes You Can Take at UCF

Yoga students practice meditation during their class periods to explore and enhance their mindfulness, said professor Beth Stone.

Being a college student is often not as fun as it seemed to be back in high school, right?

In addition to all the responsibilities adulthood comes with, completing the classes for your degree and graduating within your set time frame can feel like an energy-draining process.

However, UCF offers a variety of courses, majors, and minors to peak every student's interest and have some fun during the process.

After some research, we have collected a list of lighter-weight classes that can count for your GPA and credit requirement, while also adding some personal enjoyment along the process.

We are bringing you three categories with a variety of classes that you might find interesting, and hopefully, you are willing to give them a try.

Classes to improve your wellbeing and explore your mindfulness:

  • Sociology of Happiness

Elizabeth Grauerholz, the creator and instructor of the course, said that in this class students are exposed to the sociological study of how culture, community and society as a whole shape people's happiness.

Despite how theoretical that might sound, the way this online class is structured offers some personal development and assessment throughout the term.

Besides requiring the typical quizzes and discussion boards for each module, it invites students to explore their own happiness and wellbeing through two "happiness projects". The options to complete the project range from making a meaningful dish for others and writing on the experience to keeping a gratitude journal for at least a month.

Overall, Grauerholz has a 2.9 level of difficulty on Rate My Professor .

A synchronous, online course that meets through Zoom twice a week, but focuses on students' experiential exploration of happiness.

This virtual class aims to create a community and safe space for students to move through this "curriculum for life" together, St. Claire said. One of the class' assignments asks for students to create a sustainability plan for when the class ends, as it provides tools students can still use in their future.

According to Rate My Professor , 80% of her students would take St. Claire's classes again.

More Enjoyment, Less Stress: 10+ Fun Classes You Can Take at UCF

Professor Beth Stone said they have been exploring creative ways to practice partner poses while creating physical distance to safely develop the connection with each other during the course.

Professor Beth Stone said that the introduction to yoga course is presented in a way that allows students to create a toolkit for stress management and for life. It covers connection, among the other students and with yourself, meditation, breathing practices, and yoga postures every class.

Stone said that before diving into the history and philosophy of yoga, she first focuses on guiding students to tune in with their bodies by doing personal reflections and studying mindfulness.

At-home weekly meditations also reinforce what students are learning in class, and develop a new lifestyle: "living yogically," or  living without judging yourself. The greater goal, Stone said, is to also relate this philosophy to what happens in the world, reflect and respond with greater ease and awareness.

Stone has a 4.9 out of five rating and 100% on whether students would take again on Rate My Professor .
